Hypnobirthing Australia™ Mum Natalie and her partner James share their positive birth story. Natalie’s pregnancy and birth was seen as ‘high-risk’ and Natalie was under specialist care at a major Melbourne Hospital. By completing the Hypnobirthing Australia™ course they were able to have a positive and calm birth, with James feeling confident in his role as birth partner to Natalie.
On the 1st April I had a feeling my body was prepping to welcome our little guy into the world. It was roughly 2.30pm that I had a bath and put myself to bed to rest. I woke at 4.30pm to my body having surges and my membranes releasing. I put my Hypnobirthing Australia™️ affirmations on, dimmed the lighting and propped myself over the bean bag on the bed. Taking deep breathes and acknowledging that I was soon to meet my baby and my body was made to do this. An hour passed and I realised my surges where getting closer together. I phoned my partner and told him it wasn’t an April fools joke and it was happening! He arrived home by 5.30pm. I was in control. I was moving around, up on the bean bag, listening to guided meditations and breathing.
We had over an hour drive to the hospital where I breathed with each surge, listened to relaxing music and zoned into my Hypnobirthing Australia™️ play lists and relaxed my body (along with a mid highway vomit on the side of the road and several surges). We arrived at the hospital at 7.30pm. My partner provided the midwife with our birthing preferences, dimmed the lights, put on the salt lamp and music and became my rock. He grounded me, massaged me, provided anchoring, gave me acupressure and was by my side as I was bent over the bean bag zoning into me and my baby. I was calm, had my eyes closed and breathed through each surge. I had no prompts to push and allowed my body to guide me and my baby. Our beautiful boy joined the world at 11.16pm in the most magical way. I felt in control, calm, supported and blessed throughout. At no stage did I feel I needed to ask for any pain relief. I had a physiological third stage, delayed cord clamping until the cord went white and all while I had beautiful skin to skin with our precious boy.
The whole experience was one I am so thankful for. My birth was said to be an “at risk” one where I was meant to be induced and had to be under one of the top high risk specialist. Instead my body went naturally, everything was natural, we had a midwife (of 40 years) who stated she had never seen a birth like it and it was an honour to watch.
Myself, my partner and my baby worked hard to have a natural, calm and positive birth.
We completed a Hypnobirthing Australia™️ course with Jemma Vyas at South East Hypnobirthing, we practised daily, worked together, released fears and used our positive mindset.
We can not thank Jemma enough. It was an honour to have done her course!
